AV-Rated Healthcare Counsel. 23-Year Lawyer. Former Federal Prosecutor. Former General Counsel for Hospital System.

Lee Little has over 23 years of experience as an attorney. She is former federal prosecutor for the United States Department of Justice. She is also the former General Counsel for Augusta University’s AU Health System and AU Medical Center, including its affiliated physician practice group: AU Medical Associates, Inc. She is a partner of Hamil Little and, with her healthcare law expertise, leads our legal team in numerous matters on behalf of physicians, significant medical practices and other healthcare providers, business owners, high level professionals and successful entrepreneurs. Most of her engagements by our clients involve legal issues in the healthcare sphere that are regulatory, transactional, employment or litigation based. For example, Lee has played a vital role in our firm’s handling of physician contracting, set up of concierge/direct pay medical practices, compliance plans and compliance disputes, professional credentialing issues, fraud and abuse investigations, HIPAA and security issues, partnership disputes and business dissolutions, and employment law matters. Lee is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association and American Health Lawyers Association.

In protecting and advocating for our clients, Lee draws on rare, highly sought-after experience as a federal trial attorney with the Department of Justice, where she indicted, prosecuted and tried fraud and high-level white-collar criminal cases in federal court. Additionally, she has extensive in-house counsel and General Counsel experience with a major health sciences university:  AU Health System an affiliate of Augusta University (f/k/a Georgia Regents University); two years of service as a Judicial Law Clerk for two Superior Court Judges (Hon. Albert Pickett and Hon. Carlisle Overstreet, in Augusta, Georgia); and, most importantly, many years in the trenches of private law practice representing healthcare providers, businesses and individuals.

In her position at GRU, Lee worked closely with University leaders at a complex and growing consolidated university with an active academic health center; and collaboratively with the General Counsel’s office for Georgia Regents Health System, a medical center affiliated with GRU. Her experience included clinical practice, professional credentialing, by-laws, medical staff privileges and discipline, outside professional activity, medical malpractice and defense, employment law and training, compliance and other administrative matters, research, higher education, health law, policy, regulation and contracts.
